Neurotransmitter depletion L-dopa depletes serotonin: L-dopa
(dopa) is available over the counter without a prescription.
It is also available in prescription form and is the primary drug used to treat Parkinson's Disease
and Restless Leg Syndrome.
Using only L-dopa without taking properly balance serotonin
nutrients such as 5-HTP or tryptophan will lead to a
situation where L-dopa depletes serotonin. When serotonin
depletion is severe enough the clinical effects of L-dopa quit.
This is a common occurrence in Parkinson's Disease
where L-dopa is the drug of choice for treatment.
Virtually every Parkinson's Disease patient
experiences a point in treatment where the L-dopa no
longer works, this is caused primarily by
circumstances where L-dopa depletes dopamine
to the point the the L-dopa will no longer works. L-dopa
that quits working and symptoms that return is a
very familiar problem that doctors treating
Parkinson's Disease encounter. Very few of these
doctors understand that this is due to the problem
where L-dopa depletes serotonin. When serotonin levels drop low enough
L-dopa quits working at any dosing level. When most doctors encounter a Parkinson's
Disease patient in whom the L-dopa has quit working the
standard approach in medicine is to increase the
L-dopa; not understanding that the real cause
of the problem is a situation where L-dopa
depletes serotonin. This in
turn makes the situation where L-dopa depletes
serotonin worse.
In 2001 NeuroResearch Clinics became aware that
virtually all problems and side effects encountered
in the treatment of Parkinson's Disease were caused
by mis-management of L-dopa and use of carbidopa during
treatment of Parkinson's disease. The 5-HTP,
tyrosine, levodopa, tryptophan, and cysteine formulas develop by
NeuroResearch do an excellent job at correcting and
preventing the problems seen when only L-dopa is given
in treatment.
While simply giving these nutrients may lead to
relief of symptoms in some people, when the symptoms return the only way to
achieve proper balance of serotonin and dopamine is
with neurotransmitter testing. |
