  The first selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor Prozac became available in 1989.   When the patient presents in clinic complaining that antidepressants are no longer working the standard approach in medicine is to do one of three things:

• Increase the dosing on the drug

• Add a second drug

• Switch to a new drug

  All three of these approaches do nothing to increase the neurotransmitter levels. To the contrary each of the three actions simply sets up conditions that burn out (deplete) neurotransmitter even further. When drugs burn out neurotransmitter levels to the point that they no longer work the proper approach should be to add properly balance nutrients leading to an increase in neurotransmitter levels of the brain.
