Management
of Amino
Acids:
TREATMENT PROTOCOL
If
a patient is taking
Carbidopa / Levodopa
(Sinemet®) or other
drugs, such as
dopamine agonists,
continue the drugs
and start amino acid
treatment. At the
first sign of
improvements, stop
the Carbidopa
compound. Carbidopa
will interfere with
fine-tuning the
results as the
patient improves.

Obtain serotonin and
dopamine urinary
neurotransmitter testing then make
dosing changes based
on the laboratory
reports. The goal of
treatment is a urine
dopamine level in
the range of 6,000
to 8,000 micrograms
of dopamine per gram
of creatinine or
relief of symptoms
which ever comes
first. Although, one
patient required
urinary dopamine
levels of 14,000 in
order to achieve
relief of symptoms.
The goal of the
urinary serotonin is
to establish it in
the phase 3
therapeutic range.
It generally takes 2
to 4 months to
stabilize symptoms
in the patient with
Parkinsons.
Although rare
patients have been
observed that
achieve complete
remission of
symptoms in one
week. In general,
patients who have
been diagnosed and
treated for
Parkinsons
for 5 to 7 years or
less get very good
results. Patients in
whom
Parkinsons has been
treated over 7 years
can be stabilized
but the amount of
time to do this
increases
significantly.
